DALI control - what is it and what is it used for?
DALI is a system based on a digital signal designed to control lighting. It is a more modern alternative to analog 0/1÷10V control. In the DALI system it is possible to have digital contact with specific luminaire addresses and lighting groups. This convenient and functional system is used in linear lighting, industrial luminaires, street lamps or LED panels. These are just some examples, the spectrum of DALI applications is very wide.
How does DALI control work?
DALI control works by using a two-wire cable to pass a signal from a master controller, which is usually a computer or other device dedicated to DALI control modules. Additional devices such as motion sensors, twilight sensors or switches may also be involved in the lighting control process. In the lighting circuit using the DALI system each luminaire is assigned its own digital address from 0 to 63. This allows you to send an individual signal to 64 luminaires. For more luminaires than 64 it is possible to expand the system with an additional bus.
What elements are included in the DALI system?
The main part of the system is the DALI Bus which is powered by the DALI Power device. LED power supplies, master and slave controls are connected to the bus. The order in which the components are connected does not matter as the DALI bus is bi-directional (half duplex).
